Boca Raton High School Marching Band partners with Busch Wildlife Sanctuary
The Boca Raton High School Bobcats aim to raise awareness and funds for its mascot's species.
Honoring the school’s mascot, the bobcat, the Boca Raton High School Marching Band sought to create a performance for its competition season that would highlight the beauty of nature, destructive power of humans, and the ability to make a change to help the environment and the bobcats around us.
The performance starts in the natural habitat of the bobcat to the tune of “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. One of the biggest threats facing the species is habitat loss due to human development. In the marching band's show, development leads to the reduced population of the bobcats until just one remains, and even that one is then met by its next greatest threat. Society begins to realize that the once proud species of the bobcat is no longer thriving. Set to the solemn and moving “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson, society realizes that it can make a difference and help save what is left of the bobcat population by dedicating a protected sanctuary for them to flourish.
